Checkout U2 performing "Because the Night" with Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith

So, as I was hanging around the Westfield Mall in Canoga Park on Wednesday, waiting for my cell phone replacement, I visited the Sony store to kill some time. I'll tell you about the cell phone replacement later.

The good folks at Sony were showing a video from the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction for U2. Of course, the whole joint stopped cold and everybody watched when this number hit. Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith joined U2 on stage to perform this track.

Bono openly declared that he wished he had written this track. Interestingly enough, Bono is a very Taurus dude born on 5/10/1960. Both his Sun and his Venus are in Taurus. That will react well with Patti Smith's Sun in Capricorn and Venus in Scorpio. There should be some pretty strong sympathetic reaction between them. Sirius says that they have a 191 in romance and 203 for mutual kindness, pleasantness, and peace. Anything over 150 is extremely strong.

A little diddy about Venus in Scorpio

Several times now, I've mentioned the fact that I have a serious thing for girls with Venus in Scorpio. This even caused me perplexity (recently) when this normal pattern failed in the case of Michelle Williams. It was even more daunting in the teeth of the fact that the software apps claimed I should like her, and I could understand why. In a double blind comparison of her chart and my chart, I would rate the two natives high versus each other.

Several have dropped me notes asking "Just what the hell is the big deal about Venus in Scorpio, and why do you like it?" One even mentioned that Venus is at home in Taurus, and in determent in Scorpio. Yes, this is true. Venus rules Taurus, and is in fabulous shape there. Scorpio is 180 degrees away. The theory holds that the planet is never more weakly expressed than when it is furthest away from the sign it rules. It should also be noted that Libra (the other sign Venus rules) is right next door to Scorpio. What does that do to the theory? Not sure.

What is the significance of Venus in determent in Scorpio? The bullet point says that such an individual is an obsessive serial seducer. These individuals are intense, sensual, physical, passionate, and have a very high sex drive. They have a difficult time verbalizing their feelings and needs. However, they are extremely physically demonstrative, and act out their feelings and needs aggressively. They are semi-psychic and can read their partners moods and expressions like a book

The obsessive serial seducer line is disputed by many authorities, who site that Scorpio is a fixed, femme, water sign that wants intense union with one individual. However, there are some problems with desire for intensity of union on this level. One question that automatically comes to mind is this: With passion this intense, can any partner satisfy? Can anyone quench this raging fire? If the answer is no, the Scorpio Venusian will step out looking to satisfy those unrequited needs... and usually fail... setting up a chain of failures.

You know, I happen to know a 1975 Capricorn woman with a Venus in Scorpio. I love her to death. Were she single, I would marry her in heart beat. She drives me nuts. She has done so for some 5 years now. The fact that she married 2 months prior to our meeting is one of the great historical disappointments of my life. Nevertheless, this is a complete lost cause, and write-off. She's rock-solid in her marriage. She won't budge. I would be terribly disappointed in her if she did.

I passed her in the hallway the other day, and I got a good whiff of her as we saluted each other in the morning. I experienced an immediate bio-chemical head-rush. It was all I could do to fight off the werewolf transformation. I almost went into beast mode right there. People have little appreciation for how much pheromones impact the situation.

On the flip side there are problems. I know a Taurus woman (whom I sent flowers) with Venus in Scorpio (I mistakenly said Mars at the time). She issued no response at all to my gesture. I see her several times a month at work. It's terribly awkward. At the time, I was terribly disappointed, but the gossip I've heard since that time makes me think I was protected by God.

Several buds have told me that she's been married and divorced; carried on affairs with guys in solid relationships; broken them off and sworn undying hatred for the guy; shows big emotional outbursts. They say she's high maintenance, and hard to please. That sounds something like Venus in Detriment in Scorpio to me.

You have to wipe the sweat off your brow after hearing these stories, and count yourself lucky. It's probably for the best that she did not respond to me.

Nevertheless, I see that same passionate nature in this woman. It just isn't well tempered with the super-discipline of Capricorn. It might be re-enforced by Taurus and even stronger in her than either of these other two cases. I sent her Carnations because Carnations indicate fascination. Fascination was the correct message to send. She does fascinate me.

We'll see if I ever wind up with such a woman. La-La, the theoretically perfect Pisces, does not have Venus in Scorpio. She has Venus in Aries. The Top-Aries woman has Venus in Pisces. Incidentally, Venus is exalted in Pisces. Venus is never better than in Pisces. Unfortunately, Pisces does not go well with my twin-Leos.

What the hell happened to my NFL radio (XM 88)?!?!?!

Okay, I'm pissed. Yesterday morning I get into my (relatively new) Hyundai Genesis 2012, and the XM radio shows channel 0. I don't think anything of it at first, as I am in an underground security parking lot. No XM signal with hundreds of tons of concrete and building over your heat. You must have an unrestricted shot at the sky if you want an XM signal.

However, the situation did not change as I surfaced and entered the streets. The radio continued to show channel 0. I went to the Sports category and could not find NFL Radio 88. I tried to dial in 88 specifically. Nope. No dice. The channel kept hopping from 87 to 89. Now, I am really pissed.

I check the XM website to see in NFL Radio has gone bankrupt or suffered a plan shutdown, and I get nothing. Now I am even more pissed. I tried call XM radio to see what happend. They tell me to call back during normal business hours.

I am looking around for an explanation here. This is by far the best source of information during business season, and I was really enjoying this. I am not going to re-up when my trial ends unless I have this channel.

Understand, I am the type of dude who gets DirectTV because of the NFL Ticket, and uses Verizon because of NFL Mobile. Yep, I am one of those guys. If Sirius XM can't given me NFL Radio, I am out Jack!

What two moves will have the greatest impact in turning around the Rams fortunes in 2012?

The good folks at NFL radio were asking a pretty simplequestion today. They phrased it severaldifferent ways.

What two things would you do to make you team morecompetitive?
What are the highest impact moves your team can make tochange their status for the better?
What roster additions would make the greatest impact on yourfavorite team?

‘Tis a fair questions and the one that every dedicated fanis asking himself this time of year. It’sbusiness season, afterall. So here aremy answers:

We need two wide receivers, specifically Justin Blackmon andVincent Jackson. One via the draft and one via free agency. {We also need to resign Brandon Llyod, but this is separate issues.}
We need two high quality outside linebackers. Who those two gents are, I will leave open. I would take Zach Brown of UNC at the top ofthe 2^nd round, and try to find the best OLB available in theupcoming bonanza of free agency. IfGregg Williams would prefer to get two veterans he knows personally, I wouldhave no objections. I would also preferthat we do it this way.

As I see things, the Rams have only two devastating weaknesses: Wide Receiver and Outside Linebacker. We’restrong elsewhere.

We could also use a couple of young and strong running backs. Steve Jackson is turning 30 this year. This is the notorious age-wall that kills just about all NFL running backs. However, this is a commodityposition. Let’s exploit this fact.

Our offensive line could use some upgrades, but this is thetime and place for Coach Fisher to show us his magic. Throughout his career at the Oilers/Titans,Jeff Fishers teams were usually amazing strong in the trenches. Their front 9 were almost always among the 4or 5 best in the leagues. Yet, very,very few of the men who manned these positions were 1st-round draft picks. { Jevon Kearse and Albert Haynesworth are two noteworthyexceptions, but these are only two men among many.} Jeff Fisher’s staff excelled at finding men inthe 3^rd through 5^th round, and developing those talents. Some were even undrafted free rookie free-agents.

For Ram-fans, this is the very best news about the hiring ofJeff Fisher. He does believe in beingstrong in the trenches. He can find greatmen in the middle rounds. His staff willgrind & polish these diamonds in the rough. He does not believe in the pure Darwinian philosophy of “throw‘em in and cut ‘em if they don’t work out immediately, and without coaching.” It is an odious, egregious & despicable factthat the Rams have held to this philosophy for many years now. Good riddance to this bad ideology. Let’s cultivate some players.

So, to restate my thesis point: We need two killer receivers and two killeroutside linebackers. Those are our highpriority items. If we can do that much,the Rams can make the Playoffs in 2012. Why would I say that? Aren't we pretty far from the playoffs? Let me give you a list of reasons I have sketched out before:

There is nothing wrong with the Rams defense that cannot be repairedby fixing our wretched offense.
I know the Ram defense showed pretty poor stats during theseason, but I am telling you the stats lie.
Time of possession in 2011 was crucial to the Rams failure,both offensively and defensively. Toprarely favored us. We frequently lostthe TOP battle by 5 minutes or more. Itgot worse as the season went on.
With our offense going three-and-out all the time, it isincredible that TOP was as close as it was. The TOP figures should have been much more lopsided than they were. This is testimony to how many punts ourdefense forced.
If we can simply hold the football, flipping the TOP figures2012, our defense will be vastly better.
Scoring is a huge issue for the Rams. For the second time in just 3 years, the Ramswere rock bottom of the league in offense. Incidentally, offense is measured by points scored, not yardage. I don’t know who the fool was who establishedthat yardage was the measure of offense, but it is time for this egregiouserror to be corrected. Yardage doesn’twin the game. Points do.
The Rams scored only 193 total points in 2011. This is just 12.06 points per game. I don’t care how good your defense is, thisis not enough to win games in the NFL.
It should be noted that the Rams scored only 175 points in2009, averaging 10.9 points per game.
It is absolutely clear that the Rams need massive upgradesat the offensive skill positions. We aredying because we have lousy skilled-players on offense.
Of those lousy skilled-players on our offense squad, our receiversare the worst of the bunch.
The Rams have had the worst receiver corp in the NFL twoyears running. I’m talking about 32^ndout of 32 teams. I am talking about acrew of guys with hands of stone. Dudeswho couldn’t catch a cold running barefoot and naked through an Alaskan blizzard…soaking wet.
This is not a question of availability or health issues, as Devaney tried to spin it. No friends, the quality of our guys are pretty low. I only want Danny Amendola and Brandon Lloyd to return. The rest can go.
The main reason we can't score is that our receivers can't catch.
With that said, a couple of Outside Linebackers will help.

2012 Draft: Wacky prediction #1 Jim Irsay selects Robert Griffin III

In the surprise upset of the century thus far, Jim Ersay and the Colts will select Robert Griffin III #1 over-all in the coming NFL Draft. Robert Griffin, not Andrew Luck, will become Peyton Manning's successor in the Colt's lineup. This will be the shocker of shockers in 2012.

Why? Let me give you a list of reasons why:

Jim Irsay is a Gemini
Robert Griffin III is an Aquarius
A number of astrological programs I own predict Irsay will like Griffin better than Luck.
This is pretty straightforward, if you understand the theory behind it, but there are some interesting wrinkles in this pile of numbers.
Jim Irsay has been making some emotional and intuitive decisions lately... like the decision to fire Vice-Chairman Bill Polian.
When decisions are made at the gut-level, you chose the kid you like better, rather than the one who comes most-highly recommended.
In terms of pure combine numbers, it is likely Griffin will out-perform Luck at the track-meet in Indianapolis. This will provide a fig-leaf of science to cover pure choice by preference.
Robert Griffin III will 'fit' with current Colt personnel such as Dallas Clark, Pierre Garcon, and Donald Brown somewhat better than Andrew Luck will. These are three of the survivors expected to come forward into the new era of Colt football.
Many voices are muttering and murmuring about the coming era of the super-mobile athletic quarterback. Of course, it's guys like Steve Young, Michael Vick, Tim Tebow and Cam Newton who created this buzz. RGIII is expected to raise that buzz. Many traditionalists reject this argument vehemently. I suspect that Irsay will be willing to give it a try.

The interesting wrinkle is that some software programs predict Irsay will like Griffin better on first contact, but get along better with Luck over the long-term.

Every have one of those relationships? You like somebody a lot at first, only to discover you don't get along that well in the long-run? Ever have a luke-warm to cold reaction to someone at first, only to discover you are highly compatible later on?

This is basically what the Astrological software predicts. Irsay is going to like Robert Griffin a lot when he first meets him, but it may be a difficult marriage in the long run. Irsay's first meeting with Andrew Luck is going to leave him cold. He's just not going to have a good or strong feeling about drafting Andrew. If he does, it should work out fine in the long run.

Beware of those gut-level and intuitive reactions to people. You can't always trust your feelings. As the scientists say, try to disprove your theory, don't try to prove your theory. You're heart can tell lies.

Virgo-Pisces Alliance No.228: Why is Trent Dilfer Andrew Luck's biggest fan?

So, unless you have been under a rock for the past two years, you probably know the name of Andrew Luck. You probably know that he is expected to the be the #1 over-all pick in the up-coming 2012 NFL Draft. Unless something really unexpected happens, the Colts will take him and begin their rebuilding effort in verity & sooth.

I will blog about Jim Irsay's very interesting dilemma soon, but not this time.

One of the things football fans have noticed over the course of the past several months is that Andrew Luck has many advocates. In fact, he has almost zero (0) detractors.

So far, only Phil Simms has risen in critique of Andrew Luck. I have the greatest respect for Phil Simms, and I view him as one of the top-analysts of the game. However, I think his critique of Andrew is off-base. I just don't see it his way. I just can't see on film what he claims to have seen on film. When Phil says Andrew doesn't make NFL-type throws, I simply can't understand what he's talking about. I've seen almost nothing but NFL-type throws out of the kid. The weight of evidence is greatly against Phil.

Among all of the many advocates Andrew has, one stands out above all the rest. That would be Trent Dilfer. Trent Dilfer has said extraordinary things about Andrew. Like what? How about "Andrew Luck has no flaws".

Wow... that would make Andrew Luck perfect, now wouldn't it? I rate the kid pretty dang high, but I would stop shy of perfect. It's pretty clear that Trent doesn't shy away from that statement. He believes Andrew will have the most glory-ladened career of all the young'ins coming up in the 2012 NFL Draft. Trent really believes he is the perfect QB candidate.

It's to be expected. Trent is a March 13, 1972 Pisces dude. Andrew is a September 12, 1989 Virgo kid. That's almost a perfect 180, folks. The circular distance between March 13 and September 12 is almost exactly 180 degrees. That is the most powerful angle for attraction, balance, and complementary. Sirius 1.1 doesn't score them that high, but this is one of those false negatives I like to harp upon. Looking at the two charts in comparison, I can see obvious things the scoring engine missed. Dilfer likes Luck better than Sirius says.

Incidentally, Trent is birthday-buddies with my brother. My brother is 3 years younger. Once upon a time, I was Trent Dilfer's biggest advocate in the NFL Draft. I was the leader of the Draft-Trent movement among the Ram fans back 1994. I was so incandescently pissed-off when my Rams failed to broker a deal in that draft that I literally took a couple of years off from football. I knew we were going to suck. 1994-1998 were absolutely dreadful years, only exceeded by our recent stretch of time. I maintain those would have been much better years if we had made a deal and selected Trent. Our biggest problem in those days was the QB position.

If you have been keeping track of super-recent events, you know that a debate is emerging inside NFL business circles. The question is simple. Who is better: Andrew Luck of Robert Griffin III? This is natural occurrence. We always have too much time on our hands this time of year, ergo we chew over questions and non-questions a thousand times. Just a couple of months ago, this question would have been considered untenable.

I want to make some specific predictions about this coming debate:

It will rage on until draft day
RGIII's knee injury will not deter this debate. Andrew had one also.
The Fire/Air Alliance will back RGIII
The Earth/Water Alliance will back Andrew Luck.
Mike Mayock is going to be torn. He's next door to Andrew and 180 degrees away from RGIII. He's going to struggle with this one. I bet he loves both of these kids.
The same goes for Mel Kiper.
Todd McShay will side with RGIII
Trent Dilfer will continue to be Andrew Luck's biggest advocate.
Kurt Warner & Rich Eisen will side with Andrew Luck.

Virgo-Pisces Alliance No.227: Plotting the perfect pasta dish

Oh how lost is my FoodNetwork! As you know, football season has ended. This means that there is only one thing to watch on the old HDTV, and we ain't talking about basketball. We're talking about cooking shows. Food season begins the second that football season ends.

Unfortunately, the Food Network has rolled over and died in the past year. I didn't mind much last year, as I was undergoing rapid weight loss after gastric bypass. This year, the state of the Food Network has become insufferable.

Why? Let me enumerate the reasons why!

The Food Network is no longer in the teaching business.
The good old teachers such as Alton Brown, Tyler Florence, and Giada DiLaurentis have a minimal presence on the Food Network these days.
It seems that the Cooking Channel, in low-def only, has now become the haunt of all those who would like to improve our culinary knowledge and skills. Better low-def than nothing, but the Cooking Channel really should make the leap to high-def soon.
The Food Network has gone over to the reality show dogs. Am I alone here when I say that there is simply nothing worse than these stupid game-shows masquerading as reality shows? Reality shows were bad enough, but now that they have gamed them, these shows are even worse. Unfortunately, this absolute rubbish is the prime-time substance of the Food Network. I am utterly disgusted beyond words. I cannot pour enough scorn and venom on this programming strategy.
Alton Brown doesn't seem to be cranking out any more episodes of Good Eats.
Tyler Florence is busy running a restaurant in Mill Valley California, recharging his culinary batteries, according most insider reports. He's not doing any new episodes of Tyler's Ultimate.
Only Michael Symon is cranking out good teaching programming at this point, and only for the Cooking Channel. He has never done a true teaching program in HD.

Nevertheless, it is quite clear that Michael Symon has slid right into the spot formerly occupied by Tyler Florence. Astrologically, this is to be expected. Tyler is a Pisces. Michael is a Virgo. These are 180 degree opposites, but more alike and complementary than you would ever expect at first glance. The demographic Tyler appealed to is exactly the same demographic Michael Symon will appeal to. You would expect their audience test scores to be very similar.

Is there anything more than that? Well, I am certainly glad you asked me that question. If you can, view the following episodes of Tyler's Ultimate and Symon's Suppers back to back, and tell me you don't see any resemblance in the food or meal plan.

Tyler's Ultimate Sunday Gravy, first aired on 2/27/2010
Symon's Suppers Childhood Favorites, first aired on 2/9/2012

In episode 1, Tyler is preparing a spaghetti meal with pork shoulder, ribs and meat balls. He braises these items in a sauce very similar to the base sauce for Bolognese. In episode two, Michael Symon is cooking with his mother and father. He prepares a spaghetti meal with ribs and meat balls in a base sauce very similar to Bolognese.

Michael Symon proceeds from the statement that this is his mama's recipe, and his favorite from childhood. You can't help but feel a conversation is taking place. You cannot help but feel that Michael Symon is developing a dialectical culinary conversation with Tyler. Obviously, these two gravies are vastly more similar than dis-similar.

Evidently, Mike's mom didn't use pork shoulder. Too bad... the pork shoulder looked sensational. I would not leave out the pork shoulder. Also, Symon's use of Ricotta cheese in the meat balls is critical. Tyler did not use Ricotta in his meatballs. I would not leave out the Ricotta. I am sure those meatballs were sensational.

Symon also braises with a cheese rind. That is a sensational trick I learned from an Italian gent, and it works like crazy.

In episode #1, Tyler prepares Tagliatelle Bolognese. In episode #2, Michael prepares Tagliatelle Bolognese. The key difference is that Tyler uses beef and pork with some panchetta. He finishes with some Italian Parsley. Michael Symon used some sensational Lamb shoulder and finishes with Mint.

Symon also reduces his sauce to a chunky thickness, he then loosens the reduction with pasta water. I do this myself. You concentrate the sauce as much as possible to a paste, then you re-hydrate with that starchy and salty pasta water. This greatly enhances the flavor of the sauce.

You can't help but feel a conversation is taking place. You cannot help but feel that Michael Symon is developing a dialectical culinary conversation with Tyler. It is a fascinating conversation as well... At least from my perspective.

Personally, I would mix Pork and Lamb, use Black-forrest smoked bacon, and finish with Mint. I would also home-brew my own fresh Tagliatelle pasta. In fact, I just decided I am going to do this tonight. Tonight is the night.

I am shocked Michael Symon didn't do his own fresh pasta in this particular episode. I have seen him do this a hundred times before. I got my vacuum-sealer stunt from him. That is when I really took my own home-pasta to the next level.

Returning to the ultimate home gravy, for just one moment, I am going to have to do this recipe soon, but I won't do it until I have a bunch of people to help me eat it. This stuff looks just too precious to waste. It also is intended to be shared. I know that just by taking one look at it.

A quick shout out to Tyler: We need you to come back, man! The Food Network just ain't the same without you. We need you to do some new material, and we need Michael Symon to do his first HD teaching show. Both shows needs to go into a prime-time slot, back to back.

I promise you, oh managers of the Food Network, that you will dominate that time slot if you will put this deal together. Trust me.

Bladerunner's 30th anniversary

So I just finished watching rep #1 of Bladerunner on AMC HD (Direct TV 254). They are doing a marathon in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Bladerunner's release. This anniversary celebration blew my frickin' brains out when I saw it, and recognized it for what it really was.

It is astounding, and almost impossible to believe, that Bladerunner was released nearly 30 years ago. We won't have the real 30 year date until June 25th, as the original was released to theaters on 6/25/1982, but we are close enough. What's another 4 months and 15 days?

I was a 15 year old kid (going on 16) sitting in the Festival Cinemas (Blackstone Avenue Fresno Ca) on Saturday 6/26/1982. The movie pretty much blew me away. The visual universe had a lot to do with it. The score by Vangelis also had it's profound effect. Great acting and directing did the rest. It blew us all away. I still think it is the greatest dystopian piece of science fiction I have ever seen.

It scared the hell out of me. I wondered if the world of 2019 might look something like that. That time and that world seemed a vast distance away from me in those days. I think I did the computation which indicated that I would be 52-53 years old in that time. I wondered if I would live to see that time. Now it is just 7 years away. It doesn't seem that long anymore.

I am glad to see that AMC is showing the movie in it's original theatrical release. There have been several minor revisions of the film passing as "the director's cut" and "the final cut". They never did anything for me. I do not believe these changes made any improvements to the film. Many have poured their scorn on Harrison Ford's narration in the original theatrical cut. Not me. I always liked it just fine. I doubt I would have understood the movie without it. Even today, when I see one of the other cuts, I still reference all the critical information the narrative provided.

For a long time, I believed this was the greatest movie ever made. It was my favorite film for years. It remains one of my favorite films. Furthermore, Ridley Scott is on my short-short list of whose the greatest director of all time.

It's hard for me to describe the reasons why this film moved me so much when I was a kid. Perhaps it was the fact that 1982 was one of my worst years. I lost weight rapidly in 1981 only to turn around and lose my starting position on the defensive line as a Sophomore in 1981/82. I damaged my Achilles tendon in a freak accident with a fish tank. None of the girls I liked in High School liked me back. Nothing was going my way.

The dark and depressing tone of a misery, isolation and depression fit my mood well at the time. Harrison Ford played a very isolated lone wolf character, not temperamentally suited to the role of a Bladerunner, but highly proficient at the task. He finds love in a hopeless place, at the risk of quoting Rihanna, with a lovely replicant he has been ordered to kill.

She was a knock-out too. Sean Young is one of just a few Scorpio women who knocked me out as a young guy. It was just a few moments ago that I re-discovered what I really knew already: I have very high synastry with Sean Young. The numbers here don't lie.

Down through the years this movie has stuck with me. I've seen it a hundred or more times, and have enjoyed it on different levels every time. In this most recent run through the flick, I looked at it as a Cancer/Scorpio romance story. They have great depth of emotion and feeling without a lot of words, as we would expect in this pairing. She even pulls a classic Scorpio woman maneuver, blowing Brion James' brains out to protect her man. Those Scorpio women will pull the trigger when their loved ones are threatened.

Here are few of the classic reasons why Bladerunner resonates with me:

If the population of SoCal expanded to 1 billion people, I do wonder if the resulting Malthusian nightmare would look like Bladerunner.
If we were able to genetically design clone slaves (called replicants) I wonder if we would treat them so inhumanely as the humans of this piece do. I would hope not, but I think we probably would.
If you could genetically design the perfect replicant companion, I don't doubt a simple biological human would fall in love with him/her, human biology being what it is.
At the same time, I don't doubt we would oppress these very same ones we love. We only hurt the ones we love.
There is a great deal of Søren Kierkegaard's existentialism in this movie. There are a number of homeless and uncomfortably isolated characters in this movie who struggle to overcome emotional isolation and find some meaning in the face of the great certainty of death. This is strong meat. J.R.R. Tolkien once said that all great literature is about the same thing: Death.

In short, this movie deals with the crooked timber of humanity, and the inhumanity of mankind, in the face of the great certainty of death. It does so in brilliant fashion.

If you happened to see Bladerunner for the very first time sometime in the past several years, you might wonder what all the hub-bub is about. You might even think of this is an average or cliche SciFi film. Believe me, nothing could have been further from the truth back in 1982.

This is the original, often emulated to the point of cliche. This movie invented this style. Thousands have tried to emulate it. Just remember: this is the original. Everything else that followed is a dupe.

Core workout for the ages

So, I came up with a core workout for the ages last night. I went to the gym around 8:30pm and executed this pattern 2.5 times before my back began to ache, and I was forced to retreat for the evening.

My form was good to excellent on everything except the pike. The pike still gives me problems. My weight on the Turkish Get Up increased to 12 KG (about 26 pounds) and I really could have done 30. There was a time when I couldn't even perform the Turkish Get Up. The first time I tried it, I looked pretty damn stupid. The reason was/is core strength. The TGU is a misunderstood exercise. It is thought to be a shoulder exercise. It is much more a core exercise.

I woke up with mildly sore (but very hard) abs & obliques. This is a sure sign of a good core workout the night before. I was so impressed with the results I decided to share it with you here. I am on my way to a 6-pack.

Onward to the draft

At great length, the terrible 2011 season has come to an end. Now we move on to my favorite part of the year: Draft and free-agency season. This is the phase of the year where all hapless fans of hapless teams (read Ram-fans) can get a little hope that things just might be a little bit better next year.

Of course, when you have absolute fools like Devany & Zygmunt running the draft, you don't have much hope at all. At the moment, the Rams' GM post is vacant, and we don't have a clue who may fill that slot. It would appear that newly minted head-coach Jeff Fisher is functioning as the defacto guy, running this show. Most noises made by the org lead our clan to believe that the next GM will be a younger and junior executive who will, more or less, be subordinate to Jeff Fisher.

For this reason, most of use are expecting Jeff Fisher to call the shots on the draft.

This viewpoint was seconded by none other than 6-time NFL Executive of the year, Bill Polian. When asked if he had been contacted by the Rams, Polian gave an unequivocal "No, and I don't think they will contact me." When asked if he would be willing help the Rams on a consulting basis, he gave an unequivocal "They don't need me, Jeff and his associates will handle the draft just fine." Implication: Jeff is going to run the draft. When asked what he thought the Rams might do with that #2 pick, Polian replied "Knowing Jeff personally, I would say that he would use it draft a dominant defensive player, if such a player could be found." Implication: Jeff is going to run the draft.

What is my feeling about this? I don't know... I am languid and listless. I am looking forward to the combine and seeing the young men in action. I hope this will light my fire and enthusiasm again. Right now, I am pretty dang low about the way this season turned out.

I just don't have a good feeling about where this football team and organization stands today. When you factor in all this noise about games in London, stadium issues, potential moves to Los Angeles in 2015, I think we are staring down the gun-barrel at some lost years whilst the firm reorganizes and situates under our new owner.

The fact that we have a true football man running the show is a good thing, or at least better than Devaney & Zygmunt, but I am concerned about his propensity to go defense when what we need is offense.

I have said it before and I will say it again. There is nothing wrong with our defense that cannot be fixed by fixing our wretched offense. If our goddamn offense could say on the field for more than 3 consecutive downs (via receivers not dropping passes) then they might accumulate more than 20 minutes of possession time per game. If we could do that, perhaps our defense would not be fighting extreme exhaustion by the middle of the 3rd quarter.

Our defense showed pretty poor stats this past 2011 season, but I am telling you that the numbers lie. With good health and an offense that can hold the ball and score, our defense will be a top-10 unit in 2012.

Frankly, I am profoundly uncertain of our prospects in this draft. The one thing that gives me hope is continued murmurings and mutterings of a bidding war for the #2 draft pick, and the rights to select RGIII. When last I took stock of these rumors, there were potentially 5 bitters waiting in the wings.

However, I am skeptical that either the Seahawks or the Chiefs will join in the merry bidding war, as has been suggested. I am not sure Kansas City is ready to do away with Matt Cassel. I know we would stick a gun in Seattle's ribs if they came calling. If I know that, they know it also. I think this would discourage the phone call.

I also question the notion that Miami will be in the bidding war. If the Colts do as they are expected to do (release Peyton Manning) then I would expect Miami to be one of his top-destination points. The Dolphins have the best Left Tackle in football, the dirtiest left guard in the league, a young and budding center, Brandon Marshall, and Reggie Bush. They also have a weak coaching situation, and an owner who is dying for star power. In short, it could not be a better destination point for Peyton Manning.

Toss in warm weather and natural turf for a guy with neck problems, and you have bloody heaven. I think he goes to Miami if the Colts release him.

That would diminish the bidding war to just one or two teams: The Redskins and the Browns. What if the Browns are unwilling to give up on Colt McCoy at this point? Then we have just one bidder, and the Redskins might take their chances.

Congrats to the Giants, Super Bowl XLVI Champions

I held true to my vow and I boycotted the Super Bowl yesterday. It was the best thing in the world for me, really. I went to the gym and met an Aries female with a conjuncted Venus/Mars in Taurus. Wow! She is a pain-control therapist, and decided she just had to heal me.

I don't think I mentioned it lately, but I am pack of training injuries right now. I injured my back on Pro-Bowl Sunday doing suspension work. My right knee hurts from squatting. My right shoulder still hurts. My Carpal Tunnel still hurts. My left ankle hurts. She spent four hours working on me with a $6,000 theraputic laser... and other methods.

She told me that the first thing she though when she saw me was "what a face!" I guess I put the whammy on her. Then she noticed I was limping in semi-hunched fashion, indicating multiple pain points. As recently as yesterday, I seriously doubted Sirius 1.1's diagnosis of my synastry versus Aries females. Now, empirical facts being what they are, I am being forced to reconsider.

So in other words, I got lucky because I skipped the Super Bowl. Hallelujah! Let's skip it again next year.

But I digress.

So the Giants doubled-down and humiliated the Patriots for a second time. Rich Eisen can no longer argue that Tom Brady is the greatest QB in the history of the game {because he is from Michigan and married Gisele Bundchen}. Eli has spoiled this legacy. You keep what you kill. Eli has killed Tom head-to-head four times in a row and twice in the Super Bowl. Eli has killed him. Eli must now be recognized as the greatest of all time, if you follow the fallacious QB logic that would have placed Tom Brady there in the first place.

Speaking of Gisele, she seems to have created a PR flap by saying her husband couldn't fucking throw the football and catch the fucking football at the same time. In other words, his receivers dropped a bunch of key passes, resulting in this loss.

I have to issue a concurring opinion. The Cancer woman is quite correct. In the final analysis, the end difference in this very close game is the fact that the Giant receivers completely out-performed the Patriot receivers. Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz kicked some major arse. Brady's receivers did not. This was the big bulging asymmetry that made the difference. This was the difference that made a difference.

There is a zen lesson here for my Rams. I know a QB who suffered a hundred times more drops than Brady did in 2011-2012. This is a QB who has suffered with the worst receiver corp in the league two years running. His receivers are so bad, they couldn't catch a cold running barefoot and naked through an Alaskan blizzard... soaking wet.

When you surround a QB like Eli with 3 kick-arse receivers, just look at what he can do. When receivers drop passes, even a QB as accomplished as Tom Brady looks bad in the clutch.

The moral of this story is quite simple: Surround Sam Bradford with three #1 class receivers, and everything is going to be alright. This is what we have to do. The mission is clear. Now let's do it.

In conclusion, I just want to express my appreciation to Giants for knocking off the Patriots again. The entire civilized football world owes you a great debt of gratitude. I thank God for you. We love you. We appreciate you. We are throwing bouquets at you. I am sure I speak for all Ram fans when I say that. Several major threads saying such things kicked off on facebook.com last night. We are celebrating your victory.

So is James Harrison. It just goes to show that Bellichick can't win without his camera crew.

When we left off, last time, I issued my list of 37 names I would strike from the AskMen.com list. Who would I replace them with? According to my own semi-arbitrary standards of allure, hotness and beauty, just who would I put on this list?

I couldn't stop at just 37. I came up with a list of 45 name. I could have produced more. Here is a short list of women who I would put on the list. Only a few are my arbitrary choices. Most should be selected by any reasonable man. You may consider a few too personal or bizarre, but most are generally reasonable.

Amazingly enough, Cancer and Capricorn tie for the #1 spot, each with 9 additions. Surprisingly, Pisces comes in 3rd place with 8. Taurus and Aquarius tie for #4 with four delegates each. Gemini and Libra get shutout. I could have picked a few Libras. I was just lazy about it.

I threw this list past my buddy Colin, and only three names drew objections. Those three names were Lacie Oakly {who the hell is she?}, Kelly Clarkson {say whaaaa?} and Lauren Bacall {isn't she like 83 or something?}. Actually, she's 87, but she is more goddess than woman, so I put her on the list.

One interesting fact for you. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall have often been voted the all-time greatest romance in the history of Hollywood. They have very good synastry according to Kepler and Sirius. Better still according to Janus 4.3. Still, for romance and sexual attraction, Boggie only scores 166 points versus Lauren. According to Sirius 1.1, I score 361 points versus Lauren. I outscore Humphrey by 195 points. I more than doubled him. That is a royal ass-whuppin'!

Colin was incredulous when I showed him these scores. Hey, who knows! She's 87 years old now. If a dapper 45 year old guy in peak-condition entered her life {especially this Egg McMuffin of drip-sexiness}, who happens to think she is more goddess than woman... I could really blow her brains out. It's authentic too! I think she's awesome.

Continuing in reverse order, Kelly Clarkson happens to be Top-Taurus, from my point of view. She was born on the highest synastry date {versus my birthday} of any possible Taurus woman in my lifetime. Whilst I am not inflamed with lust for her, I have always enjoyed the hell out of her music. I hold open the possibility that she could convince me of a whole lot more, if I ever met her. As you can see, her score is 366 points. Incredible... she outscores Lauren Bacall... Difficult to believe.

Lacie Oakley is a special case. She is an unknown techie in Hollywood who happens to have an entry on IMDB.com. What makes her special is the fact that she was born on the magic Pisces date of 3/12/1986. This is the highest of all possible synastry dates versus my birthday. This means she could be the theoretically perfect Pisces female I have code-named La-La. To-date, she is only one of three examples of this Pisces female I know of. She is the only American, and she is the only one living near-by {Burbank}.

In case you're listening, Lacie, the computer says that you and I just might be a case for the ages. A case that could re-write the record books and set the benchmark for all generations to come. Our scores are utterly absurd across the board; numbers so high it is preposterous. If you are interested in giving it a try, I am very interested in giving it a try.

The 1st NFL Awards Show: Katy Perry and Tim Tebow Part 2

So, I broke 100% sports blackout last night to watch the first-ever academe awards... errr... NFL Awards Show. It was worth it. They didn't mention the dreadful Stuper-Bowel we have coming up today (much). I am still boycotting the Stuper Bowel this year.

The worthwhile moment came a scant 15 minutes into the show. Alec Baldwin attempted to perform a 'Tebow' on stage. It didn't work out so well. He didn't understand the pattern he was supposed to run. Tim came up on stage (he had front row seats) and corrected Alec's form. Alec accepted this coaching gracefully. It was a touching Leo-Aries moment. Fire relations are good.

The very next moment, Katy Perry is walking on stage to present the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Yep, that's right, Katy Perry is the first ever presenter of an award in the history of the show... and she's walking on stage right now... and Tebow is in the front row.

It's times like these when an anxious dad grows concerned about his son's mental health and safety. I am sure Tim's mama was concerned as well. I was just watching Monster Bug Wars last week. Lots of scorpions on that show. How about a Lion versus a Scorpion?

On a serious note. Katy did not have her usual radiance and shine. She's usually beaming and gleaming. Her magnetic pull is usually overwhelming. Not so last night. Her energy level betrayed a case of serious depression, although she put up a good front. I am sure she's pretty wiped-out by her divorce. Of course, I don't like that. It hurts to see her hurting.

They say it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. It must be the masculine signs that coined that expression. Not true for the femme signs. Loose a love and you are absolutely writhing in agony. It's like getting ripped in half.

After reading a bit from the teleprompter, and showing the video clips, Katy turns towards Tim and says "Hi Tim. My parents say 'hi'!"

Everybody fell-out laughing over that one. You know why. I know why. I know that you know. You know that I know. You know that I know that you know, etc. This is lot more than her parents being pastors, and his being missionaries. You know Katy's mamma was trying to do a setup recently.

Call me stupid. Call me foolish. Call me irresponsible. Call me a dreamer, but I couldn't help but feel responsible for this uncomfortable event last night. I was pretty dang uncomfortable during these moments. My hair was on fire.

I have not read many comments about Katy Perry in NFL-related blogs. Actually, that number is zero. The NFL high-command might not even know Katy Perry exists if it were not for me making a big deal out of her for the past two years. I am the only NFL Blogger I know of actively describing Katy Perry as a knock-out bombshell.

Of course, Roger Goodell is a Pisces guy, so he's going to react strongly to Katy. I am sure she blew his frickin' brains out the second he saw her, the same way she did to me.

Then, of course, I blogged about it when Katy's mamma tried to do the setup... My Google stats say that I got several hundred reads on that blog post. That's not too bad for a small-time amateur like me. The NFL can't help but try to take advantage of a piece of pure pop-platinum like that.

A word of warning to you, my son: This was no accidental happen-chance event last night. Scorpios are control freaks. They are way-into power and control. If she hadn't liked her mamma's comments, she would not have been seen within 1,000 miles of the awards show last night. Her little hiya was only half-joking. That little bump-event last night was a check-out. She never would have gone along with the gag if she didn't want something out of it.

Dudes often miss femme signals because women are incredibly obscurantist about their signals. Scorpios are even more secretive and obscurantist.

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but never me.

I warn you, my son, you are almost totally incompatible with this woman. She is just chemically different from you. She's a great woman, but not for you. You are the best guy around, but not for her. There is a monumental fire-water conflict brewing here. It didn't look like you were taking the bait, and that's a good thing. It would be a real sad thing if you got together and disappointed the hell out of each other.

The AskMen.com Top 99 most desired women: The cut list

As you may have gathered from the past several blogs in this series: I am not entirely thrilled with the list AskMen.com came up with. Lesson #1 of synastry: Beauty and desirability is a relative thing. Who you like is a function of who you are. What you find desirable is based on your own composition as a human being.

Stated roughly, one man's trash is another man's treasure. The vise versa is also true: One man's treasure is another man's trash.

Just remember, when she was struggling and trying to make it in music, Ke$ha (Pisces) broke into the artist formerly known as Prince's house and asked him to produce her. Prince (a Gemini) called the cops, and had her dragged out. She then broke into P. Diddy's house and did the same thing. P. Diddy (Scorpio) liked her just fine. Diddy decided he wanted to produce her record.

Now how about 'dem apples? See what a difference an angle can make? One man's trash is another man's treasure.

It logically follows that I have a cut list. There are women on the AskMen.com top 99 who have no business being there, IMHO. There are also marginal, doubtful cases I wouldn't necessarily put on the list. I went through the list with a ruthless eye. My objective was to remove any and all doubtful cases. I was probably a bit to soft on the cuts.

I only struck 37 names from the list. If I were in a bad mood, I probably would have struck more. However, I just took my prohormone supplements, and my testosterone is up. That makes me hard, and ergo soft on the ladies. I probably should have cut GISELE BUNDCHEN, since she is sleeping with the enemy. However, since she is a Cancer girl of exceptional beauty, I decided to spare her. Just remember: I probably could have struck more names.

Who failed to make the cut? You may be surprised by some of the names on my cut list. You will also be surprised by how highly Sirius 1.1's synastry engine graded some of these cuts. These are some of the notorious false positives I keep complaining about. These false positives are the leading reason why I believe the industry needs a new Synastry engine that works better.

Looking at the composition of the women I struck from this list is an interesting exercise. If conduct a head count, you will notice that I struck 15 Fire women, 11 Air women, 7 Earth women and just 4 Water women. I could have cut Gisele, which would have increased the Water losses by 1, but the Water clan would still have suffered the lowest casualty rate of the bunch. As It was, I couldn't bring myself to cut Gisele. Now what does that tell you?

Do we have a lesson there? From the Virgo point of view, the Water girls enjoy heavy-handed favoritism. Even in clear-cut blood-feud situations, a Virgo guy tries to show clemency to a Water woman. I like them. I just can't help it.

On the other hand, 15 Fire women got cut from the list. The composition is very interesting. 7 of the 15 are Aries women. Leo and Sagittarius lost 4 each. The interesting thing is that I am supposed to be exceptionally biased in-favor Aries women, according to Sirius and Kepler. Further Haley Atwell and Brooklyn Decker are both purported to have scores over 200 with me. Sorry folks, I'm just not feeling it. Jennifer Lopez is supposed to have a 180. Sorry folks, I never felt that way about her. I've known about her some 20 years now, and I never even suspected that she was a match for me.

Is there a lesson here? I think there are several.

this list was made by Libra dudes. Libra dudes rule the AskMen.com website. They are so heavily biased towards Aries women they made numerous strange selections.
31 fire women were selected, by far the largest sub-category on this list. Like any inflated category or figure, a number of strange and weak cases made there way through to the end.
The Libra dudes who made this list would probably passionately defend their choices.
This Virgo dude finds their choices indefensible.
Sirius and Kepler incorrectly and vastly overstate the attractiveness of Aries and Sagittarius women versus your humble Virgo author.

As I have frequently mentioned on this blog, Sirius and Kepler both claim the absolute highest burner of a romance score I could possibly have in my lifetime is versus an Aries woman born 4/13/1979. The lowest score this woman could have is 530 points. The second highest score is versus an Aries woman born 4/12/1979. The lowest she can score is 522 points.

I have never bought into either of those two calculated solutions. I have always been intensely skeptical of that finding. Incidentally, the actress Claire Danes was born 4/12/1979. Although I have know of her existence, and seen her work for some 18 years now, I never ever suspected she would be a match for me. I am very incredulous.

Lately, I have noticed that the actress Jennifer Morrison was also born on 4/12/1979. I have to say, I found her a lot more than stunning in the recent movie Warrior. However, it's pretty clear that she is a stunning woman. A lot of guys would find her stunning.

I'm still skeptical.

Rather, I have chosen to focus on the #3 score, which is the theoretically perfect Pisces female born 3/12/1986. The lowest she can score is 520 points, but her score can go higher, depending on birth time. Further, her total combined score dwarfs all others: Aries included.

A couple of final ponts.

When it comes to cuts among Air women, Aquarius takes the edge of my knife. Most interesting is the case of Christina Ricci. She was born on 1/12/1980, just a scant 19 days away from the very highest Aquarius score availible in my lifetime. Top Aquarius (from my perspective) was born on 1/31/1980. She scores 448 points. Being born 19 days prior to that hot-point, Christina's score drops to 181. That's still high.

Perhaps it is because I find it impossible to view little Wednesday Adams as a sex symbol, but I just don't think she should be on the list. The Libra guys will not agree with me, but I just can't see this as a rational choice.

When it comes to cuts among Earth women, my home girls from Virgo suffer the wrath of my knife. Of the 7 Earth girls cut from the list, 5 of them are Virgos. Just one is a Capricorn. Just one is a Taurus. The most curious case of them all is Michelle Williams.

I've known about Michelle Williams for sometime now. I did not know she was a Virgo. However, it didn't surprise me when I discovered she was a Virgo. My immediate reaction to this news was "NO WONDER SHE ANNOYS ME SO MUCH!" Yes, like so many Virgo women before her, she annoys me tremendously.

The funny thing is she is virtually my astrological twin. We share 3 of the first 5 personal planets in common. We have a bullseye conjunction between my Mars and her Venus. That is usually enough to set me off like an atomic bomb. My favorite little Leo in the entire world happens to have this bullseye conjunction. I'm not talking about Tim Tebow either, although he also has this conjunction with me.

Complicating the issue even more: Michelle Williams has Mars in Scorpio. I have a fetish for that. That is the 800 horse power, 600 ftp of torque V-12, turbo charged engine of sex-drive. Girls with this Mars setting often set me off like an atomic bomb. I have blogged about this in the past.

You may not think Michelle Williams comes equipped with such a V12 engine, but rest assured she does. She's like a lot of Earth women. She's a fake goodie-two-shoes. She's a secret freak.

Just an hour or so ago, I was out at Barnes and Nobles, and I saw Michelle Williams on the cover of a magazine. She was in some lovely lingerie. The cover header read "Who knew Michelle Williams had a body like this?" I had to admit, she was pretty damn fetching. She forced me to take a second and third look.

I hold out the possibility that (if I met her in person) Michelle Williams could change my mind about her in a big damn hurry.

Taking a good hard look at this list, as I have for he past 48 hours, a number of obvious observations jumped out at me immediately. What are those obvious observations:

There are quite a few women on this list I know something about, or am aware of.
There are a sizable number of women on this list I never heard of before.
There are old disagreements on this list, that are unfortunately persistent.
There are new discoveries on this list who are pretty sensational.
I am not sure how a woman I never heard of before can be on the top 99 list of most desired women in the world.
There are good choices
There are bizarre choices.
The order they ranked these women in is absolutely crazy, and without justification.
I understand the political mechanics of voting that brought us this order. I totally disagree with the results.
When you allow the computer to order this list for one man, in this case me, the order is entirely different.
You will notice that some women score very high
You will notice that I have scores of scores of ZERO (0) with a pair of dynamite Leo women, both of whom I find overwhelmingly attractive.
Libras occupy two of the top 3 slots, including the #1 slot.
Libra is a sign considered fundamentally incompatible with Virgo.
If you saw the aggression and violence score Kim Kardashian and I have together (525) you would doubt the quality and significance of that 357 romance score that puts her at the top of the heap. My gut tells me she would hate me. This re-asserts the old wisdom which maintains that Libra is incompatible with Virgo, despite the fact that we generally have cordial side-by-side relations.
I have low scores with a sizable number of women I should have low scores with.
I have high scores with a sizable number of women I should have high scores with.
The Sirius engine consistently and relentlessly under-values and under-estimates the appeal of Earth women, at least from my point of view.
Perhaps Earth women don't like me nearly as much as I like them. This theory would conform to the general facts of my life. In general, Earth women don't give a damn about me. I get no love from the Earth women.
The Sirius 1.1 engine consistently and relentlessly over-states the appeal of Air and Fire women, from my point of view.
In general, this pattern does not conform to the general rules of synastry. You would not expect a Virgo guy to go well with Air women... at all. You would predict difficult relations with Fire women. You would expect excellent relations with Earth women.
This list, as sorted by Sirius 1.1, is not the list as I would sort it. If I sorted the list myself, I would produce a very different order.
There are a number of false positives on this list. There are women who show up strong on this list whom I would not even place on this list.
There are a number of false negatives on this list. There are women who show up with zeros (0) on this list, who are certainly not zeros (0) from my point of view. Neither Marisa Miller nor Madalina Ghenea score zero in my book. I would score both in the high 500 range.

Next time I will show you the list minus the women I would strike from the list. I will also enter a discourse regarding why my Fire and Air scores are higher than one would first expect, and my Earth scores are lower than you would expect.
